I think almost everyone watched at least 1 minute of what was going about in the London 2012 Summer Olympics. For those who were there for only the opening and closing ceremony: you suck. I’m just kidding. But seriously, that’s not what the Olympics are about. It’s about watching countries fight against each other to see who can get the most medals and pride for their country.
I was glued to watching the Olympics since I found out when the Olympics were going to start. It was all just very exciting and I loved the 2012 logo:
Doesn’t it look awesome. I like the pink one just cause it’s really popular. My sister likes the first one because she’s a hipster…she doesn’t agree to it (the fact that she is a hipster). I’m not really the Olympics type of gal but I wanted to be really focused on this year’s Olympics and I’m kinda glad I was.
Researching more about the Olympics, I found out something I regretted: the mascots. They are the ugliest mascots I’ve seen for anything, no offense. They might have had to think a lot of these mascots but it’s still ugly and I don’t think anyone really likes them. For the people that haven’t gotten to seen their unepicness:
I think Wenlock is the guy and Mandeville is the girl. I’m not sure but it may not even be gender-specific. Other than that these mascots are named after places. These places were also places where the Olympics and Paralympics were held.
I may be a little too judgy but I’m only bringing in the truth. How do you think these mascots would look in advertising cases? In merchandise? I’m here to answer that question and unfortunately I’ve got bad news.
Yep, they look really cool and futuristicy but that’s only for commercials and digital stuff. What about stuffed animals…I mean stuffed mascots.
They look great don’t they! These things aren’t glass looking enough. They haven’t to have some futuristic feel or they are totally out of their real look. It’s like watching those Dream Works episodes on TV for Kung Fu Panda or that Madagascar show with the penguins where the graphics just become really bad.
Can you really buy this and think, the Olympics are going to be great this time. No! I”m sorry for raining on your parade but the Beijing ones were awesome and I really liked the Vancouver ones too. The biggest risk with mascots are not making them cute. You have to make them cute. These just look like futuristic aliens. And for once I actually thought the mascots were gonna get good.
Onto another topic… the Opening Ceremony. Wow, that was some show. It wasn’t that I didn’t like it…well, I didn’t like. I felt like they were over doing it with all that acting all the fake landscape. Being honest here, British culture is basically normal to us. It’s so normal that it’s not even viewed as culture. So when I saw the women in those 1400s dresses I thought, This isn’t culture. This is boring. But I was wrong. That was only the beginning. It just got weird with the rave party. It was all just too overwhelming and not even fireworks. Celebrations always need fireworks. Katy Perry would so back me up right now. The only part I did like about it were the Rings. Not the making of the Rings. Just the Rings floating in the air. That’s it.
That was nice.
Heading off to the literal games, it was so exciting. I didn’t know what to watch and what to expect. I just wanted to watch everything because I was so excited. That was not a good idea. Tennis was just very boring for a person like me. Weightlifting was just a little nerve racking. Gymnastics was too competitive and I was the only person that wasn’t extremely loving the Fab Five. I’m not that pessimistic, okay. I did love watching volleyball and rhythmic gymnastics. I actually LOVED rhythmic gymnastics. I saw it by the end of the games and couldn’t stop watching the ribbons and the balls and…ya.
Those are just the highlights. If you wanna be like me, a hardcore recaper then don’t recap. Watch the full replay:
I just don’t like the fact that they didn’t cover enough of the sports. Some of the sports weren’t even covered (for TV). It’s just to say that we don’t get to see the full potential, for example Handball but I would call it European Handball. I don’t want to have to go online to watch it myself. So much work.
Closing ceremony: please oh god no. You’re not really gonna make me talk about this. All I have to say is they took the British culture and added in cultures of countries they used to own.
Queen Lizzy Meme.
The only with some sort of relation was the Brit-Pop ceremony thing. That was okay but I felt like it was too focused on people that knew English….and music. The moment I heard the 1D song I knew we were in it for the long watch. It’s not that I don’t like 1D, it’s just that their music is just not good enough.
^^^ Trying to word that correctly.
Well, even though the Olympics are over ( and the Paralympics are starting) I’m still gonna watch the full replays on Youtube because I want to and I”ll miss it for 2 years. Next Olympics in 2014 will be at Sochi, Russia. In 2016, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (which they already started working on). 2018, Pyeongchang, South Korea. 2o20, To be determined… can’t wait until it IS determined!
:D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D
I’ll now be doing what a “Let’s Talk About” where are talk about very big news that everyone knows about and say something controversial without caring what people think of me. :D Actually I just didn’t want to say “Opinions Regarding World News” because that sounds too literal and I just wanted to make things fun. :P
